The Nokia C6-00 is a smartphone and portable entertainment handheld cellular device by Finnish communications company Nokia, running the Symbian S60v5 operating system. It was announced on April 13, 2010. It is the third Nokia Symbian^1 smartphone featuring a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Its software and hardware specifications resemble the N97 mini in most ways. One of the differences is that the sliding in this phone is flat, unlike the upward angled in the N97 mini, hence allowing a four row QWERTY keypad, bringing a slightly enhanced typing experience to the table.[4] The phone has a 5-megapixel camera, though unlike the N97 mini, it does not have Carl Zeiss optics.[4] It also has a secondary camera in front for video calls. The Nokia C6-01 is the successor to the C6-00 featuring a major step-up with the new Symbian^3 operating system, Ovi Maps 3.0 and such but losing the QWERTY keyboard.

Cnet UK wrote that 'The C6 suffers from the worst excesses of the N97's software, without the saving grace of its solid hardware, resulting in a phone that's disappointing at any price.'[4] Cnet Asia wrote that though the user interface is slow and outdated. However, they like the improved connectivity features, free real-time navigation with Ovi Maps and the generally well-built chassis.[5]
The C6-01 runs the Symbian^3 operating system. Symbian^3 supports three home screens, each with up to six widgets that the user can customize.First software update Symbian Anna with major improvements was released. Again, Symbian Anna was replaced with Nokia Belle on February 7, 2012 which brings major improvements in user interface and core functions.
Calls sounded clear through an Aliph Jawbone Icon ($99, 4 stars) Bluetooth headset. The voice dialing worked fine over Bluetooth. The speakerphone sounded fuller than on most other phones, but oddly, it still didn't go loud enough for use outdoors. Battery life is average at 4 hours and 52 minutes of talk time in 3G mode.
Nokia preloads a bunch of other software, including a smooth-playing CNN video app that works properly with a widescreen aspect ratio, plus a Facebook client and Quickoffice for viewing Microsoft Office documents. It also includes apps that make sense in other parts of the world, but not here (Friendster or Hi5, anyone?). You can download third-party apps from Nokia's Ovi Store, but using the store is exceedingly difficult. Even logging in required jumping through hoops just to install a mandatory update of the store app before I could get started.
Multimedia, Camera, and ConclusionsThe side-mounted microSD card slot comes preloaded with a 2GB card; my 32GB SanDisk card worked fine. There is 200MB of free internal memory. There's a standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the phone and music sounded fine over a wired headset. Music tracks sounded clear and punchy through Motorola S9-HD ($129, 3.5 stars) Bluetooth headphones. The music player displays album art, although it took a long time to index just 40 songs on my microSD card. Nokia recently canned its unlimited Comes with Music service, so that's out, but there's a built-in FM radio. Standalone WMV and MP4 videos played smoothly in full screen mode, although my own 720p clips didn't play.

Screen-to-body - Shows what approximate part of the frontal area of a phone its screen occupies. The value is calculated automatically based on the screen measured diagonally as a full rectangle without accounting for the rounded corners and the notch/cutout.
Capacity - The bigger, the better! However, battery capacity is not the only factor that has an effect on battery life. Those include the chipset in use, the software running on the device, as well as the consumer's unique usage pattern.
"Until now you could only get the full Microsoft Office Mobile app on Windows Phone, but not anymore. We are happy to announce that from today, the Nokia 701, Nokia 700, Nokia 603, Nokia E7, Nokia X7, Nokia C7, Nokia Oro, and Nokia C6-01 will also get this much sought after collection of productivity apps. You can get them using the Nokia Software Update tool on your smartphone, or connecting your phone to the Nokia Suite on your PC.
The third part of our Nokia C6 review offers an overview of the software and some insight into the phone's user experience. Part 2 covered the camera and multimedia software bundle. Part 1 covered first impressions and hardware.
The RAM measurements mentioned above were taken while using a full complement of widgets (in this case: Calendar, E-mail, Music and both favourite application widgets). Therefore, the C6 clearly has enough RAM to make full use of this new home screen system.
Web shows pages in full screen mode by default, with just a small icon overlaid in the lower-right corner that will recall the on-screen buttons. Pages scroll smoothly with kinetic dynamics, again benefitting from the evident optimisations in the C6's operating system.
The C6 comes with the now-standard compliment of office software. The basic applications here being: File Manager, Dictionary, Unit Converter, Zip file manager, Calculator, Notes and finally Message Reader for users with impaired vision. However, the heavy duty office applications are of course version 6.2.2 of the Quickoffice document viewer, and Quickoffice's Adobe PDF Reader version 2.5LE.

The C6 supports an array of connectivity options that we've come to expect from mid-range to high-end Nokia smartphones. These include a front-facing camera for video calling, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, Assisted-GPS and Bluetooth stereo. There's also a built-in accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, alarm snoozing and call silencing. The phone's firmware can be updated over-the-air or via the PC software, but do note that the former requires a data connection if you're not on Wi-Fi. So make sure you have already subscribed to a data plan. Holding down the Menu button opens the multitasking manager.
A repertoire of applications is pre-installed and more can be downloaded from the Ovi Store. These include Quickoffice (read-only version), a unit converter, PDF reader, Psiloc World Traveler (paid subscription is required to access all features) and Shazam (full version for 30 days). There are also apps for Facebook, Friendster, Hi5, MySpace, AP Mobile, Bloomberg, ESPNsoccernet, CNN Video and a YouTube player, all of which are pretty self-explanatory. We like Ovi Maps with its complete free drive and walk real-time navigation, never mind that it's not the most user-friendly options around. The web browser doesn't support pinch zooming, but it plays Flash videos directly from the page.
The 1200mAh Lithium-ion battery is rated for up to seven hours of talk time and 17 days on standby. On average, with push activated for our office and personal email accounts, occasional web browsing and navigating with Ovi Maps, plus light calls and messaging, we could get about two days on a fully charged battery.
Mar 21, 2011Nokia today announced the Astound for T-Mobile, a new name for the C7-00. The phone is largely identical to the C7-00 for the rest of the world, and will even say C7 on the phone itself, but will come with a slightly updated version of Symbian^3 that's faster, and has some pre-loaded software including Slacker radio and Swype predictive text entry, which works in both portrait and landscape modes. 2ff7e9595c
